The short version
- Photos you attach stay on your phone. We never see them. Care logs stay on your phone too, unless you use an account or Family Hub to share them.
- We collect your account details, the optional answers you choose to give, and information about how the app is used. Our usage analytics use a random ID, not your name, email or phone number.
- We send marketing emails and texts only if you say yes. You can stop them at any time.
- We do not sell your personal data for money. We do use advertising platforms such as Meta and Google to show DigiPaw ads to people. Some state laws call that “selling” or “sharing.” You can opt out with one tap in Settings, Privacy, and it takes effect right away.
- We never collect anything from a child’s session, and we never ask about race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, citizenship or your health.
- You can see, download, correct or delete your data in the app at any time.
1. Who we are
DigiPaw Studios LLC (“DigiPaw,” “we,” “us”) is a New Jersey company. We publish the DigiPaw: Dog Care Tracker app for iOS and Android and run digipawstudios.com. We decide how and why your personal data is used, which makes us the “controller” or “business” under privacy laws.
Contact: support@digipawstudios.com, or DigiPaw Studios LLC, 971 US Highway 202 N, Suite N, Branchburg, NJ 08876. Our privacy officer handles every privacy question and request.
This policy covers the app, the website, our emails and texts, and our surveys. It does not cover other companies’ apps or websites, even when we link to them.
2. What we collect
2.1. Information you give us
| What | When | Required? |
|---|---|---|
| Email address and password (or your Apple or Google sign-in ID, if you use one where offered) | When you create an account | To have an account. Your password is stored only as a scrambled (hashed) value. Nobody at DigiPaw can read it. |
| Your name, what you like to be called, and gender | Onboarding | Name is needed for an account, and household members see your display name. Gender is optional. |
| Mobile number | Onboarding or Settings | Optional. Used for account recovery, and for texts only if you agree. |
| Your birthday, and your state or region | Onboarding | Yes. Your birthday confirms you are 18 or older. Your region tells us which privacy rules apply to you. |
| Who cares for your dog and what matters most to you | Onboarding | Yes, to set up the app for you |
| How you heard about DigiPaw | A one-time question in the app | Optional |
| “About you” answers: gender, marital status, education, household income range, household size, how many people you want in your Family Hub | Your profile, only if you choose | Optional. Every question has “Prefer not to say.” You can change or delete answers at any time. |
| Dog details: how many dogs, name and nickname, breed, sex, birthday or adoption date, weight, height, coat | Onboarding and your dog’s profile | Breed and age are needed to set up the app. The rest is optional. These stay on your phone unless you have an account or use Family Hub, which saves them to your account. |
| Care logs and routines shared to your account or Family Hub: the kind of care (for example “Breakfast”), done or skipped, the time, any note you type, routine names and times, and who logged it | Only if you have an account or use Family Hub | Needed for those features. Photos are never uploaded. |
| Why you invited a caregiver (for example Vacation or Work trip) | When you invite a pet sitter | Optional |
| Survey answers and feedback | Only if you answer | Optional |
| Messages you send us | When you contact support | Optional |
| Your choices: agreement to these documents, marketing choices, opt-outs | When you make them | We keep a record of each choice as proof |
2.2. Information collected automatically
- Device and app details: phone model, operating system, app version, language, time zone, and a random install ID created by the app. We also work out a short support code from the install ID. It is shown in Settings, Privacy, so you can read it to support if we ever need to confirm a phone.
- Internet address (IP) and country. When you agree to our documents, we save the IP address and country the request came from. We also use IP addresses to keep the service secure.
- Usage events: which screens you open and which main features you use, for example “routine saved,” “reminder done,” “Plus screen opened from the Second phone lock,” “trial started.” We also record how long and how often the app is used.
- Daily care summary: once a day, counts and times of care logged, for example “3 meals, first meal at 7 AM, 2 walks, 4 treats, played fetch.” Never notes, photos or names.
- Approximate location: your country, from your phone’s language and region settings, and the state or region you choose. We do not use GPS or precise location. For rain and hot pavement alerts, the app turns your phone’s time zone into a nearby city and asks the weather service Open-Meteo for that city’s weather. It sends the city’s coordinates, never yours, and no account details.
- Where you came from: the ad campaign or link that led to your download, and for Apple Search Ads, the search keyword. Unpaid store searches reach us only as totals from Apple and Google.
- Advertising identifiers: on iPhone, only if you tap “Allow” on Apple’s tracking prompt. On Android, the Google advertising ID, unless you opt out in Settings, Privacy or in your phone’s settings.
- Push token: a device address so reminders and household updates can reach your phone.
- Marketing notifications: only if you turn on “Marketing notifications” in Settings, Privacy, DigiPaw starts our messaging provider, OneSignal, on your phone. It gets a device identifier and a tag that says you opted in. If you never turn it on, it is never started and receives nothing. Turning it off removes the tag and unsubscribes your phone right away. Care reminders and Family Hub alerts do not use OneSignal.
- Crash and performance data: technical details when the app has a problem.
- Screen recordings: we do not record your screen. If we ever add it, we will ask you first, everywhere, and hide everything you type.
2.3. Information from others
- Apple and Google: purchase receipts (never your card number), sign-in details if you use their sign-in, and download and campaign totals.
- Your household: members of your Family Hub add care events that show their display name.
- Advertising and measurement partners: whether a DigiPaw ad led to a download or a purchase.
2.4. Information that stays on your phone
These are saved only in the app on your phone and are not sent to us: photos you attach, vet contacts, vaccine and medication records, the vet report you create, children’s profiles and their passwords, and your care history if you do not use an account or Family Hub. They are deleted when you delete the app, unless your phone’s own backup keeps a copy. If you share a vet report or send an invite, it goes from your phone straight to the person or app you choose. We do not store the phone number or email you send an invite to.
2.5. What we never collect
We do not ask for or knowingly collect race or ethnic origin, religion, sexual orientation, sex life, transgender or nonbinary status, citizenship or immigration status, health information about people, genetic or biometric data, precise geolocation, government ID numbers, or card or bank numbers. Please do not put any of these in a survey answer or a message to us. If you do, we will delete it. The gender question offers broad choices and “Prefer not to say,” and is never used to infer any of the above.
3. How we use it, and our legal reasons
| Why | What we use | Legal reason (EU, UK and similar laws) |
|---|---|---|
| Run the app, your account, Family Hub, reminders and purchases | Account, dog, Family Hub, push token, receipts | Needed to provide the service you asked for |
| Keep the service and accounts secure, prevent fraud and abuse | Account, device, usage, IP address | Legitimate interests, and legal duties |
| Understand how DigiPaw is used and improve it | Usage events, daily care summary, age range, region, dog details, “About you” answers, survey answers | Legitimate interests. In the EU and UK, your consent for analytics. |
| Send service messages | Email, push token | Needed to provide the service |
| Send marketing emails, texts and push messages, and choose which ones fit you | Email, phone, name, region, age range, dog details, usage, “About you” answers | Your consent |
| Show DigiPaw ads on other platforms and measure them | Hashed email or phone, advertising ID, campaign data, purchases | Your consent outside the United States. In the United States, until you opt out. |
| Publish de-identified research such as dog care trends | Aggregated or de-identified data only | Legitimate interests |
| Keep proof of agreements and choices, meet legal duties, handle disputes | Agreement and consent records, messages | Legal duties and legitimate interests |
Grouping for marketing. We group people by things like region, age range, breed, how they use the app and whether they subscribe, so messages and ads fit better. This never produces decisions with legal or similarly significant effects, such as on credit, housing, jobs or insurance. You can opt out of targeted advertising at any time.
4. Analytics
Our analytics tools are PostHog and Google Analytics for Firebase. Events are tied to a random install ID, not to your name, email or phone number. Google’s advertising ID is turned off in Firebase. Events may include your age range, region, breed and other profile answers, so we can see patterns across groups. In the EU, the other European Economic Area countries, the UK and Switzerland, and anywhere we cannot tell your country, nothing is sent until you agree in the app. Everywhere else it starts on. In every place you can change your choice, and turn it off, in Settings, Privacy at any time, and it takes effect right away. Your age range is a band such as 25 to 34, worked out on your phone from your birthday. Your birthday itself is never sent with analytics. Once a day the app may send a small summary of yesterday’s care as counts and the hour of the first meal and first potty, never notes, photos, names or dates.
5. Who we share it with
5.1. Service providers
These companies work for us under written contracts. They may use your data only to provide their service to us, must protect it, and may not sell it or use it for their own purposes.
| Provider | What they do for us |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Hosts accounts, profiles, Family Hub data and consent records |
| Expo (and through it Apple and Google push services) | Delivers push notifications. A household push includes your dog’s name, the name of whoever logged care, and the kind of care. |
| Google Firebase | Product analytics |
| PostHog | Product analytics, crash reports, surveys and optional screen recordings |
| Open-Meteo | Weather for the city nearest your time zone |
| OneSignal | Sends marketing push notifications to phones that opted in (and in-app messages later, if you agree) |
| Customer.io | Sends email and text campaigns |
| Text message carriers and delivery partners | Deliver texts you agreed to |
| Apple and Google | App distribution, sign-in and purchases |
| Marketing agencies | Help plan and run our campaigns, only under our instructions |
| Hosting, email and support tools | Run our website and answer your messages |
5.2. Advertising platforms
To show DigiPaw ads to you, or to people like you, and to measure whether ads work, we may share a scrambled (hashed) email address or phone number, an advertising ID, and events such as “installed” or “subscribed” with advertising platforms such as Meta (Facebook and Instagram), Google and TikTok. Under the laws of California and several other states, this can count as “selling” or “sharing” personal data, or “targeted advertising.” We do it only:
- outside the United States, only if you agree;
- on iPhone, if you allow tracking on Apple’s prompt;
- in the United States, until you opt out. Opting out takes one tap and stops sharing right away.
We never share survey answers, “About you” answers, children’s information, or anything from a child’s session with advertising platforms. We do not share personal data of anyone we know is under 18 for advertising.
5.3. Other sharing
- Your household: Family Hub members see the care events in the Hub and the display name of whoever logged them.
- Law and safety: when the law requires it, or to protect the rights, property or safety of DigiPaw, our users, animals or the public.
- Business changes: if DigiPaw is merged, sold or reorganized, your data may move to the new owner, who must honor this policy. We will tell you first.
- With your permission: for anything else, we will ask first.
5.4. De-identified data
We may share or publish information that has been aggregated or de-identified so it cannot reasonably identify you, such as “peak puppy season by state.” We will not try to re-identify it, and anyone who receives it must agree not to try either.
6. Your choices
All of these are in the app under Settings, Privacy, and take effect right away. None of them needs a verification code, and none of them changes how the app works for you.
- Marketing emails: switch off, or tap “Unsubscribe” in any marketing email.
- Marketing texts: switch off, or reply STOP.
- Push messages: switch off marketing pushes. Reminders you set have their own switches.
- Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information: one switch that stops all sharing with advertising platforms. You can also use the form at digipawstudios.com/privacy-choices without an account.
- Anonymous usage information (analytics): switch it off. In the EU, the other EEA countries, the UK and Switzerland it stays off until you allow it.
- Global Privacy Control: if your browser or device sends this signal, we treat it as an opt-out of selling, sharing and targeted advertising.
- iPhone tracking: change it at any time in your iPhone’s Settings, Privacy and Security, Tracking.
When you opt out, we also send that choice to our messaging and advertising partners, and we ask advertising platforms to remove you from any audience lists we created. We keep a short “do not contact” record so we do not message you again by mistake.
7. Your rights
Wherever you live, you can:
- See and download the personal data we hold about you, in a file you can take to another service (Settings, Privacy, Download my data).
- Correct anything that is wrong (edit it in your profile, or ask us).
- Delete your account and personal data (Settings, Privacy, Delete my data).
- Opt out of selling, sharing, targeted advertising and marketing.
- Withdraw consent you gave, at any time, as easily as you gave it.
- Object to or restrict some uses of your data, where your local law gives that right.
- Know which categories of data we collect, where it comes from, why, and who receives it. This policy lists them, and you can ask us for more detail.
How to ask. Use Settings, Privacy in the app, email support@digipawstudios.com, or write to our mailing address. You can ask someone to act for you (an authorized agent). We may ask them for your signed permission and ask you to confirm the request.
Verification. Opt-outs never need verification. For access, correction and deletion, we confirm the request comes from you, usually through your signed-in app or a code sent to your account email. We only use the details you give us for verification to verify you.
Timing. We answer within 45 days (one month in the EU and UK). If we need more time, we will tell you why, and we will take no more than 45 extra days (two extra months in the EU and UK).
Appeals. If we decline your request, you can appeal by replying to our answer or emailing support@digipawstudios.com with “Appeal” in the subject. We will answer within 45 days (60 days where state law allows). If we still decline, you can contact your state attorney general or data protection authority.
No penalty. We will never deny you the service, charge you a different price or give you a worse service because you used a privacy right.
8. Notices for US states
This section applies to residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and any other state with a similar law. We give these rights to all US residents, whether or not their state law requires it.
8.1. Categories of personal data (the last 12 months)
| Category | Examples | Sold or shared for targeted ads? |
|---|---|---|
| Identifiers | Name, email, phone, install ID, advertising ID, IP address | Hashed email or phone and advertising ID only, unless you opt out |
| Characteristics | Birthday or age range, gender (optional), marital status (optional) | No |
| Commercial information | Subscriptions, trials, treat purchases, and the store’s transaction numbers for them | Purchase events only, unless you opt out |
| Internet or app activity | Usage events, daily care summary, campaign source | Install and purchase events only, unless you opt out |
| Approximate location | Country and state or region | Region only, unless you opt out |
| Professional or education information | Education level (optional) | No |
| Inferences | Interest groups used for marketing | No |
| Sensitive personal information | Account sign-in (email and password) | No. Used only to run your account. |
Sources, purposes, recipients and retention for each category are in Sections 2, 3, 5 and 9. We do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you. We have no financial incentive or loyalty programs that depend on your data.
8.2. California
California residents have the rights in Section 7, including the rights to know, delete, correct, opt out of the sale and sharing of personal information, and not be discriminated against. The “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” switch and the Your Privacy Choices page are our opt-out methods. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16. Under California’s “Shine the Light” law, we do not share personal information with other companies for their own direct marketing.
8.3. Nevada
Nevada residents may opt out of the sale of covered information by using the same switch or emailing us.
9. Keeping data, and deleting it
| Data | How long we keep it |
|---|---|
| Account, profile, “About you” and dog details | While your account is open. Deleted within 30 days after you delete your account. |
| Family Hub events | While your account is open, or until the Hub is deleted |
| Analytics events and survey answers | Up to 25 months, then deleted or fully de-identified |
| Marketing contact details | Until you opt out or delete your account |
| “Do not contact” list | As long as needed to honor your opt-out. It holds only the email or phone number and the date. |
| Records of your agreements and consent choices | Kept after you delete your account, for 6 years from when each record was made, as proof of what you agreed to. They hold your account ID, a scrambled (hashed) copy of your email or phone number so we can match a record to you, the document versions, the time, your device type, the internet address and country, a support code and your choices. They do not hold your readable email or phone number, your name or your care data. |
| Security logs, such as wrong Family Hub codes tried from your account | Up to 1 day |
| Purchase records (the store’s transaction numbers, never card details) | 6 years from the purchase, even after you delete your account, to handle refunds, chargebacks and disputes |
| Support messages | 3 years |
| Backups | Overwritten on a rolling basis within 30 days |
When you delete your account we also ask our service providers and advertising platforms to delete your data. De-identified data may be kept.
What deleting your account does not remove. Privacy laws let us keep information we need to establish, exercise or defend legal claims, to meet legal duties and to prove what you agreed to. So deleting your account removes your account details and personal information from our systems, but we keep the agreement and consent records in the table above, a record that your account was deleted, and the “do not contact” entry so we never message you again. If a dispute with you has been raised, or we reasonably expect one, we may also keep other information we hold about you until it is resolved and the time limit for any claim has passed. If we cannot delete your account for that reason, we will tell you and explain how to contact us.
These periods are the longest we keep data, not a promise to keep it that long. Data can be lost through errors, outages or device problems, and we may delete it sooner as our Terms of Use explain. Words in the app such as “safe” or “saved” describe how DigiPaw normally works, not a guarantee. Keep your own copies of anything important.
10. Users outside the United States
Transfers. DigiPaw is based in the United States, and our providers store data in the United States and other countries. When we move personal data out of the EU, the UK or Switzerland, we use the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK addendum), or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified.
EU, UK and Swiss residents have the rights in Section 7, plus the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests and to complain to their data protection authority. Our EU representative is DigiPaw Studios LLC, 971 US Highway 202 N, Suite N, Branchburg, NJ 08876, United States (support@digipawstudios.com). Our UK representative is DigiPaw Studios LLC, 971 US Highway 202 N, Suite N, Branchburg, NJ 08876, United States (support@digipawstudios.com).
Canada. Our privacy officer, reachable at support@digipawstudios.com, is responsible for personal information under PIPEDA and Quebec’s Law 25.
Brazil, India, Japan, South Korea, Australia and other countries. You have the rights your local law gives you, including access, correction, deletion and withdrawing consent. Our privacy officer acts as our data protection contact (encarregado, grievance officer). Contact support@digipawstudios.com.
DigiPaw is not offered in mainland China.
11. Children
DigiPaw is for adults 18 and older. We do not let anyone under 18 create an account, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. A child can only appear as a nickname profile on an adult’s phone. That profile has no account and no email. If a child logs care on a phone that is part of a Family Hub, the household sees the child’s nickname as who logged it, so please use a nickname and not a full name. Nothing from a child’s session is sent to analytics, marketing or advertising partners. If you believe a child has given us personal data, email support@digipawstudios.com and we will delete it.
12. Phone permissions
| Permission | Why DigiPaw asks |
|---|---|
| Notifications | Reminders you set, Family Hub updates, and marketing messages only if you agreed |
| Exact alarms (Android) | So a reminder fires at the time you set |
| Photo library | Only when you choose to attach a photo. We never scan your library. |
| Motion sensor | A small parallax effect on the Home screen. Sensor data never leaves the phone. |
| Tracking (iPhone) | Only to measure DigiPaw ads, and only if you allow it |
DigiPaw does not use GPS or precise location, your contacts, your camera in the background, or your microphone.
13. Our website, cookies and similar tools
Our website, emails and app may use cookies, pixels, tags, software kits (SDKs), local storage, device identifiers and similar tools, now or in the future. We use them for three reasons: to make things work, to understand how they are used, and to measure and show our ads. This section applies to every such tool we use, whether or not it is in use on the day you read this, and the list of providers in Section 5 is kept up to date.
- Needed to work. On by default (for example, remembering your choices).
- Analytics and measurement. In the EU, the UK and Switzerland these run only if you accept them in the cookie banner. Elsewhere you can turn them off with the “Your Privacy Choices” link at the bottom of every page.
- Advertising and ad measurement (such as the Meta pixel or Google tags). These can count as “sharing” or “selling” under some state laws. They follow the choices in Section 6: outside the United States they need your consent first, and in the United States you can opt out with one tap.
- Global Privacy Control. If your browser or device sends this signal, we treat it as an opt-out of selling, sharing and targeted advertising.
- Screen recording. We do not record screens on the website. If we ever add it, we will ask first and hide everything you type.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser, and reset the advertising ID on your phone, at any time. Doing so may stop some parts of the website from working.
14. Security
We protect your data with encrypted connections (TLS), encryption of stored data, access rules that let only you and your household read your Hub, strict limits on which of our staff can access data, and logs of that access. Optional “About you” answers are kept apart from your account details and encrypted. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your personal data, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires. Please keep your phone’s passcode on and your account email secure.
15. Changes to this policy
Each version of this policy has a date, and every past version stays available at digipawstudios.com/legal. If we make a material change, we will show it in the app before it takes effect and ask you to agree again. We will never use data you gave us under an older version in a materially different way without your consent.
